Nuret

A grandfather clock need not rely on hands or chimes to mark the passing hours. Imagine instead a tall wooden timepiece where time unfolds through scent—a contemporary interpretation of the ancient Chinese incense clock, enriched with the vibrant folk-art traditions of Dalarna.
For centuries, incense clocks were used in China to measure the passage of time. As carefully designed trails of incense slowly burned, they released changing fragrances into the air. Rather than hearing a bell or watching a dial, people experienced time through their senses.
Now imagine this centuries-old concept reimagined through Nordic craftsmanship. Crafted from pine and adorned with flowing kurbits motifs, the clock contains a glowing incense path that slowly winds through its interior. Each passing hour is announced not by sound, but by a subtle shift in fragrance—cedarwood, forest resin, juniper, or other scents inspired by the Scandinavian landscape.
In a world increasingly dominated by screens, alerts, and constant urgency, such a clock offers a different relationship with time. It invites reflection rather than interruption, awareness rather than haste. By experiencing time through fragrance, we are reminded that its passage need not be something we merely see or hear—it can also be felt, sensed, and quietly lived.
"Nuret" is a merge between the words nu (now) and uret (the clock). This is also a wordplay on the word nuet meaning presence.
