Swim Stool

This project is a conceptual design experiment that challenges conventional notions of furniture design by pairing a minimalist stool structure with an unconventional seating material: a standard inflatable swim ring.
By merging these contrasting elements, the piece dives into a deeper conversation about material hierarchies and the arbitrary boundaries we place between the "refined" and the "vulgar". The swim ring—mass-produced, plastic, and associated with cheap leisure—is elevated to a functional component of furniture, questioning why certain materials are deemed worthy of our living spaces while others are dismissed.
Beyond the cultural critique, the stool serves as a literal and metaphorical investigation into the element of air. It explores how a completely weightless, invisible substance can become a load-bearing structure. In traditional furniture, support is rigid and solid. Here, the air plays the defining role.
